Overview & FAQs: Access Control Devices

Updated over 3 weeks ago

What is an Access Control Device?

It is the device that you use to scan tickets.

We recommend using either a phone/tablet or a portable barcode scanner (which can be purchased via Amazon) as devices to scan tickets.

You can create a login for a device on Line-Up and connect this to our Access Control scanning portal, where you can use it to scan and redeem tickets.

The Access Control portal works with any phone or laptop browser; the easiest option would be to log in to the Access Control browser on a mobile phone and then use the camera on the phone to scan customer tickets.

What appears on the screen when I scan a Ticket?

There are 3 different Statuses that appear on the screen after a Ticket has been scanned. The barcode number will appear on the screen for each scenario.

1. GREEN - SUCCESS

The Ticket has been successfully redeemed. You can either tap Scan Next Ticket if you are on camera mode or you can scan the next Ticket immediately if you are on scanner mode.

2. ORANGE - ALREADY REDEEMED

The Ticket is valid but has already been scanned/redeemed on the date and time that appears on the screen.

3. RED - FAILED

The barcode could not be read or redeemed at this time.

This could be because:

  • It does not adhere to the Barcode Scanning Rules that have been set up. You can change these rules on the Event Settings page.

  • It is an old barcode and is not valid - most likely because a new Barcode has been generated since. If that is the case, you can search the Customer's information on Line-Up to find the Order, click Download PDF and then scan the barcode that is on this PDF.

  • The scanner device can not read the barcode properly, possibly because of a connection issue. If this is the case, then enter the Barcode manually by entering the number that is below the barcode.

FAQs

Why is my device not updating when I scan Tickets?

If you are using camera mode on a phone or tablet, check that it is connected to your WiFi.

If you are using a Barcode scanner and connecting via Bluetooth, it may not be connected to your phone or tablet. Check the Bluetooth settings, or connect with a USB cable.

We recommend reading the instructions that came with your scanner device to get set up.

Is there any other way to check-in Customers?

Yes, you can use our Manual Check-In feature, where you can manually check customers on the Transaction Items List.

What Barcode scanners do you recommend?

The Zebra TC27 is the most effective device for barcode scanning on our system. It has an integrated Barcode scanner but also uses Android browsers, giving you the option to use camera mode if you need.

How can I see which Tickets have been scanned successfully on Line-Up?

Either on the Order page, the Transaction Item List or a Barcode Report. See our Guide for the steps.
