Guide: Set up a Stripe Payment Terminal

Updated over a month ago

NOTE - you will need to register your terminal device as a Terminal Reader on Stripe first. See these Stripe documents for how to do this.

The Stripe Terminal devices we support are BBPOS WisePOS E models.

1. Add Terminal

a) Go to the Tools page on the left hand side and click Payment Terminals

b) Click Add Terminal

2. Enter details

a) Name - a name for the payment terminal to help identify it easily

b) Description - optional

c) Model - any three digits

d) Serial Number - use the Reader ID from Stripe

NOTE - do not use the Serial Number that's on the device because it will not work for this field on Line-Up. You will need the Reader ID from the Stripe dashboard - here's an example of what a Reader ID looks like:

tmr_123abcXYZ

Follow these steps on Stripe to find it:

  1. Log in to your Stripe Dashboard

  2. In the left-hand menu, go to
    Payments → Terminal → Readers

  3. You’ll see a list of all connected or registered readers

  4. Click on the reader you want — you’ll then see its details panel.

    There you’ll find:

    • Reader ID — looks like tmr_123abcXYZ

    • Label or nickname (if you’ve set one)

    • Location

    • Status (online/offline)

See here for more details from Stripe.

e) Tags - help identify your terminals on the Terminals page

3. Submit Terminal
